installer revolution - [HUN]Peti - 07-05-2007 TC UP has improved very much since the release of Windows Vista, it is mostly compatible with it. My question is about the installer. On the left side it displays a black picture with ULTIMA PRIME logo on it. I've made a concept with my idea, check it! PS: The Vista-like skin (borders, buttons) are not part of the idea, this is my computer... RE: installer revolution - m^2 - 07-05-2007 It think that black background is for a reason - black is the main TC UP color. Is this background cut from Vista wallpaper? If so, it probably can't be included in TCUP installer because of license problems. I'm not against that change though, your picture looks nice. RE: installer revolution - [HUN]Peti - 07-05-2007 I don't like the main TC UP colors, and yes, it's Windows PE 2.0 (Vista installer) background. But can't we say "permanently it isn't, it's my work"? RE: installer revolution - m^2 - 07-05-2007 [HUN Wrote:Peti]No. You use some work of Microsoft's people. So you must follow MS's license. I didn't see it, but I doubt it allows you to use their graphics. RE: installer revolution - [HUN]Peti - 07-05-2007 Damn! This isn't good. I love this picture and I doubt I could make anything like it. But this concept looks pretty good, if ULTIMA agrees I could work on it, I sure don't need MS work. RE: installer revolution - ULTIMA PRIME - 07-05-2007 I not change logo RE: installer revolution - [HUN]Peti - 07-05-2007 I still don't understand you! I changed the background to something modern and "more vista". And I removed some noise from the logo itself, but ULTIMA logo is the same! The original looked like it was resized (from a smaller picture). I still don't think the background is a part of this logo... RE: installer revolution - m^2 - 07-05-2007 [HUN Wrote:Peti]"more vista" is not an advantage ;> But in general it's not a drawback either. RE: installer revolution - [HUN]Peti - 07-05-2007 I can't describe this thing as I'd like to but I try. So look at Windows versions: Win98, WinXP, WinVista. (i don't care about 1.0...3.1...) 98: grey taskbar, black text, 16 color icons (i don't remember corrrectly, maybe 256) XP: gradient taskbar (blue), white text, 24-bit colors Vista: gradient taskbar (black), white text, 24-bit colors + 8-bit semi-transparency (32-bit altogether) Look at TC UP picture on the left side of the installer. If I want to associate the picture's look with a windows version then I say 98. This was a long time ago (9 years), softwares improved dramatically... The graphical user interface of the softwares must be as good as the host operating system, in our case it's Vista. Every developer knows he has to make a 32-bit icon for his product. I as a user don't like programs with 256-color icons. So I think TC UP should move to the next era. I know this is the logo of Ultima, but the black background with a few colors is not "fashionable" any longer, I think it's time to make a new design. RE: installer revolution - m^2 - 07-05-2007 [HUN Wrote:The graphical user interface of the softwares must be as good as the host operating system, in our case it's Vista. The fact that Windows installer changes doesn't mean it's getting better. And, please, don't give Vista as an example of a good OS, rather hope TC UP won't follow it's standards ("hey, you can't do it" or "it seems that this program has some problems with itself"). Of course this drawbacks have nothing to do with view. But Vista's Aero's styling is not commonly considered good. And MS knows it, that's why it provides good support for older interfaces inside it's new OS. |
