Instaling TCUP - morgoth - 06-18-2008 Hi there, I would just like to know if by installing TCUP with all programs, tools and plugins I will fuckup any configuration, settings and profiles of default programs (browser/im etc) I already have installed. I dont want TCUP to make changes outside of the total commander program it is associated with. So my question is will anything in my OS be changed if i just wipe the TCUP map lateron. I also already run a total commander installation WITHOUT TCUP..will that continu to work fine without any interference? Thanks for a swift answer. RE: Instaling TCUP - fenixproductions - 06-18-2008 Take a look on attached image to see how to set up installer for "system transparent" TC UP. You can also switch off all shortcuts (desktop, quick launch). Hi..first: thank you for the swift answer. Those installer settings in the picture seem like harmless for any major change to the OS (but maybe i'm wrong). They dont tell me anything about possible changed associations/preferences/defaults/profiles/settings which might occur in my system after installing all the programs/plugins/tools i can choose to install in the setup of TCUP. Are you saying installing everything won't make any changes to my system outside the total commander environment? and what about the total commander instance i already have installed? will it keep working independently alright? Thanks again for a swift answer. RE: Instaling TCUP - fenixproductions - 06-19-2008 According to the information received from Ultima: there is no associations changes after installing TC UP. He has always TC UP in mind as portable project. The only way to mess with system is to set associations from an application itself (i.e. starting included XnView and choosing "associate" from its options dialog) but it has nothing in common with main TC UP. I've got a few TC (and TC UP) installations here and have never any problem with it. RE: Instaling TCUP - morgoth - 06-24-2008 Ok thanks again..all seems to work fine ;-) RE: Instaling TCUP - zvuk - 07-20-2008 Before I say anything else I want to say that I'm absolutely fascinated with TC UP! That's why I miss better installation options! fenixproductions Wrote:According to the information received from Ultima: there is no associations changes after installing TC UP. He has always TC UP in mind as portable project. Yes it's portable and it should be. I'm definitely using it as such. I install it and move it wherever I want: to a USB stick, to another computer. But then, why is the installer not made with this in mind? I had 3.6 and wanted to update to 4.0, but the update option was dimmed, I suppose because it did not find TC UP where it expected to find it (in "%ProgramFiles%\TC UP\") or it misses something from the registry - I don't know right now - but a portable application should not rely on either. There should be a possibility to point the installer to the TCUP program folder. fenixproductions Wrote:The only way to mess with system is to set associations from an application itself (i.e. starting included XnView and choosing "associate" from its options dialog) but it has nothing in common with main TC UP. Not really. It's possible to set file associations during setup. The "main TC UP" is also not very useful. What I use are these two .reg files (my TC UP is in " D:\d\Progs\TC UP\"): For the left pane: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\TC UP L] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\TC UP L\command] @="\"D:\\d\\Progs\\TC UP\\TC UP.exe\" -O -L=\"%1\"" and for the right pane: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\TC UP R] [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\TC UP R\command] @="\"D:\\d\\Progs\\TC UP\\TC UP.exe\" -O -R=\"%1\"" RE: Instaling TCUP - fenixproductions - 07-20-2008 zvuk Wrote:I had 3.6 and wanted to update to 4.0, but the update option was dimmed, I suppose because it did not find TC UP where it expected to find it (in "%ProgramFiles%\TC UP\") or it misses something from the registry - I don't know right now - but a portable application should not rely on either. So for now, the entence should sound like: "If you will check same options as on attached images AND choose "None" scheme for associations then the only way to mess..."
