Can you compare these versions to check out what might be the reason?

I would but I really do not know how, plus I'm sure you know you own program from inside out, and if you say that you can't find what's causing this problem then I don't think I can eather.

Thanks for your time

@John

The problem is more complex:
- there were no media handling changes between these versions,
- Ultima does not have Windows Vista to test it,
- there are no problems for him (and me) under XP.

There could be few reasons for such behaviour (like antivirus blocking WMP calls) BUT it might only happen in the case of changes.

The only thing that comes to my mind is to take a look on mmedia.wlx privileges. Maybe they were changed.

Unfortunately: we can do nothing about it without problematic installation on Vista.

You can try to copy old version and the new one to separate directory and run "Synchronise directories" tool on them. Delete all identical files and "Compare by content" left out text files (INI, CFG, etc.).

Without it: we can't even guess what's wrong.

BTW I've tried default installations for both versions under Vista on VirtualPC and they are working just fine.

Thank you very much for your detailed explanation but I'm just a regular user and really don't think I will be able to figure out on my own where the problem is.

Alright guys, I fixed this issue. Like I said before I'm not as knowledgeable about computers as you are, so please forgive me if I say something wrong Smile.
The problem was with the file called "filter.wlx". I substituted this file in TCUP 4.2 with the one from TCUP 4.1 and everything is working fine now. Synchronizing "wlx" directories revealed that the following files were different:

1. fileinfo.wlx
2. positions.ini
3. mmedia.ini
4. filter.wlx
5. listfilter.ini
6. readme_details_eng.txt (not important in our case)

That's it, here my knowledge stops Smile. I don't know why filter.wlx located in "PDFFilter" folder (which I would think has something to do with PDF documents format) ? was causing this problem.
Mmedia.ini has difference in line 19 but swapping these files (which I did first) didn't help. Also "fileinfo.wlx" in TCUP 4.2 indicates a newer version 2.0.10.0 comparing to TCUP 4.1 with 2.0.7.0 and has a little difference in dll dependency (is it important here?).
Well, I don't know where to go with all this but I have both "wlx" folders copied so if you need any of those files for your analisys please let me know.

Great work You did what we've expected.

19th line is just the info (size, position) about area of the screen where multimedia should be be displayed.

From your description it looks like lister is skipping Mmedia plugin and goes directly to PDFFilter.

Theoritically this plugin should be used for viewing PDF files so you can find in wincmd.ini the line similar to:
Code:
X=%COMMANDER_PATH%\PLUGINS\wlx\PDFFilter\filter.wlx
where X is the number (9 here) and add below:
Code:
X_detect="ext="PDF""
Let's see what happen next Wink

Thank you for your quick respond Fenixproductions.
Ok, if I understood you right you wanted me to go back to the original "filter.wlx" and see if adding the line X_detect="ext="PDF"" to wincmd.ini will solve the issue? It did not. TC still stops responding and Windows is asking to close the program.
But you know it's working fine with "filter.wlx" from TCUP 4.1 or you guys just trying to figure out how to fix this bug without having to change the files? Well, I'm ready to experiment some more Smile
BTW, this filter.wlx file can not be deleted while TC is open and running. It's like it's always being in use by the program.

I should mention that "X" should be valid number (I hope you assumed that by yourself).
Plugins should be loaded when they are needed and closed with TC. You might use thumbnail view or lister previously and that is why WLX files are in use.

Adding "X_detect" should force TC to use PDFfilter for PDF files only.
I don't really know WHY Ultima add this plug. It should work with some files only if there are some converters in Windows available (all configured and described in listfilter.ini) but there are none added by TC UP.

I am happy you figured solution out but, as I wrote in one of the previous posts, we don't really have good opportunity to investigate this more.

My dear friend Fenixproductions, you suggestion DOES WORK!!! My stupid ass previously did not save changies(I thought I did) in wincmd.ini after adding that line (and yes I did put the number instead of X Smile). Now everything is back to normal and working just fine.
So, since now on, do I have to add that line everytime I download a new version of TCUP? And do you have any idea why did this start happening?

Thank you
