If anybody else does have this problem, here's some quick fix:
Look in your registry and grab the backup value of Path under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet003\Control\Session Manager\Environment\Path
When there's none, then either have to look in ControlSet002 or ControlSet001, or you've rebooted too often - then it's gone...
