Testy beta (publiczne lub niepubliczne) jeszcze nie rozpoczęły się.

Nowa funkcjonalność:

1. Pełne wsparcie kodowania Unicode
Kodowanie Unicode używane jest do poprawnego równoczesnego wyświetlania znaków narodowych. Przykładowo funkcjonalność ta może być użyteczna dla każdego, kto posiada pliki o rosyjskich i niemieckich nazwach.
Implementacja tej funkcjonalności zabiera większość czasu przeznaczonego na prace nad nową wersją.

2. Pasek nawigacyjny - Breadcrumb bar
Pasek znany jako breadcrumb bar używany jest do szybkiej nawigacji pomiędzy folderami znajdującymi się w tej samej gałęzi drzewa. Nie jest jeszcze znany zakres implementacji tej funkcji. Wiadomo jedynie, iż autor napisał własną kontrolkę na wzór paska obecnego w systemie Windows Vista.

3. Końce linii w plikach descript.ion (komentarze)
Funkcjonalność ta pozwala na używanie znaków końca linii (enter) w plikach zawierających komentarze.

Ponadto wielkość komentarzy będzie wynosiła 4kB (minus: nazwa, spacje oraz pola specjalne). Maksymalna wielkość odpowiadać będzie najnowszej specyfikacji plików descript.ion.

4. Kategorie wpisów FTP
Ponieważ wpisy serwerów FTP w wielu przypadkach przybierają postać długich list, nowa wersja ma dawać możliwość ich grupowania.

5. Wypalanie płyt
Nowa wersja TC ma również przynieść zintegrowaną możliwość wypalania płyt. Funkcja ta bazuje na wtyczce systemu plików "Total Commander CD/DVD Burning Plugin". Autor do tej pory zdobył kod wtyczki oraz zakupił licencję na FoxBurner SDK.
Nie wiadomo jednak, czy funkcjonalność ta zostanie zaimplementowana jako dodatkowa wtyczka, czy w jakikolwiek inny sposób. Nie zostało to oficjalnie ogłoszone.

6. Osobne drzewo
Osobne drzewa katalogów pojawiły się w TC 7 i od samego początku były krytykowane z powodu brakujących funkcjonalności. Wersja 7.5 przyniesie więc nieco zmian.
Poniższe funkcje zostały wprowadzone:
