How to properly update?
#1
I am not sure I understand how to properly update. I have TCUP 9.1, and am trying to update it to 9.2. Installation mode recognizes that I have version 9.1 and suggests "Uninstallation" (which I probably do not want, since I want to update), "Installation Repair" which does not seem to be updating, although does not show a "success" screen and seems to just "end" after selecting options, and "New installation", which seems to suggest, that a new installation will be done, potentially with loss of current settings, which I do not want, because I have quite a few customizations done in current build. I was not able to find any info on how exactly I am supposed to update the TCUP version in a way, that will save all current settings, but update TCUP's tools and respective 3rd aprty apps/tools/plugins (if they were update), so can someone advise on this?

Yes, you want this Smile

Each time you uninstall, the installer makes copies of most of the project settings in this location:

!Files\Backup\TC UP\

You can check this location by clicking on the "Directory hotlist" or use the keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+D)

Then:

Files > Backup\TC UP

After uninstalling, select the installation and in the Backup tab you will be able to restore your settings.

To be on the safe side, you can always make a copy of the entire TC UP directory to another location and if something is missing, restore these settings.

But why uninstall? Why not just copy the updated files for TCUP tools and bundled software?

BTW looks like email notifications about new replies do not work Sad

It is by design. It is working. We spent thousands of hours to make it like it is. However, it always can be better...

In my personal opinion, run installer in Update Mode and copy only new files (without any modification to existing files / config files) is much better solution (some of similar enhanced File Managers support that). However, providing such functionality to TC UP would require a LOT of work. Many changes to installer. Time and money.
